Mrs Cook is our Sixth Form Student Adviser and is based in the Careers office on the first floor.  She has a wide range of resources and works closely with an external Careers Adviser to support students, as well as with local apprenticeship providers and HE institutions.  She will be able to give you advice and guidance throughout your time in the Sixth Form on the following:

  • Post-18 options
  • Career choices
  • University courses
  • UCAS
  • Financial Support for Higher Education
  • Apprenticeships
  • Work Experience
  • CV writing
  • Interview techniques

All students are entitled to careers interviews and throughout the year students will be offered a full programme ensuring that they have the advice they need to progress on to higher education, an apprenticeship or further courses at college.  A weekly Careers Bulletin will be displayed in Tutor Groups and on the school website detailing HE opportunities; apprenticeship vacancies; work experience and gap year opportunities, etc., and this will also be displayed on the Careers Noticeboard in the LRC.  You can see our academic plan for CEIAG on the school website, under “Careers”.

We will also organise assemblies throughout the year with representatives from universities/colleges and the workplace to give students valuable information regarding their future options. We also offer a range of special events for students preparing them for applying to university and for employment.  This includes visits to a local university; the UCAS Exhibition at the NEC and The Skills Show.

As part of our Year 12 programme of study, we have incorporated a week’s work experience in July to enable students to gain valuable experience for their university and apprenticeship applications. This is particularly important if students are considering careers in healthcare, teaching and veterinary sciences, as universities stipulate that students must have relevant experience as part of the application process. Students should start their research early, as the competition for placements can be intense.
