The Business department at Plantsbrook School is a highly skilled and experienced department that endeavours to provide all students with a well-balanced understanding of the business world through the variety of subjects on offer at KS4 and KS5. To ensure inclusivity, we offer vocational and traditional qualifications in Economics (A-level), Accounting (A-level), Business (BTEC L2 and L3, GCSE and A-level) and Travel and Tourism (BTEC L2 and L3). Students are offered the opportunity to undertake a number of the subjects offered in Year 10 and are often inspired to continue with these subjects at our sixth form. Uptake for these subjects is strong year upon year and continues to grow, with a number of students opting to study a combination of business related courses. Our aim is to ensure that students have a confident understanding of how the global economy works and affects them, how different industries operate and how businesses are effectively managed. Students in Key Stage 3 learn about some of the key elements of business, personal finance and financial literacy through lessons delivered in other subject areas.

We firmly believe that as a highly relevant subject area, students are exposed to the necessary key skills and basic understanding and awareness of a world that hugely influences and impacts them in their daily lives, in a well-informed and challenging setting.  Students are encouraged to link their learning to the dynamic business and economic environment in which they live and to remain informed about changes in the political, economic and business landscape through a variety of channels, including documentaries, literature and the news to support and enhance their business education. 

Our aim is to equip students with fundamental skills, including critical thinking, debate and enquiry as well as effective communication, all of which are transferable skills for further education and the world of work. We are proud of the number of students who have been inspired to continue to pursue further education or careers and apprenticeships in the business industry and beyond, on completion of their studies, with great success.
