DT Curriculum
Our design and technology department is a fast paced and bustling multi sensory hub within Plantsbrook school. Students are encouraged to reflect on the past and innovate the future, through the manipulation of materials and combining of ingredients, across a broad range of study areas and topics. We deliver these experiences through traditional workshops, industry standard food rooms and a textiles studio. We enhance these experiences through the use of CAD CAM technologies.
We recognise that success in design and technology can take many forms and that good progress does not necessarily mean being the best in every study area. Instead, we offer students an opportunity to experience and participate in 12 challenging and vastly different project based learning journeys across KS3, through which they can hone their practical skills, develop resilience and pride and seek out their own personal areas of interest through pathways in engineering, textiles, design and technology and food technology.
Our enthusiastic team challenge pupils to reflect on difficult but poignant social and ethical issues occurring across the globe, fostering independent inquiry skill, confidence and self belief to enable them to deconstruct problems and present creative and inspiring design solutions.
Students become informed consumers, with an ability to evaluate and critically assess commercial products, make good life choices though their knowledge of healthy lifestyles and diet and to be independent, resilient and confident adults with life skills and ‘know how’.
At Plantsbrook school we pride ourselves on equipping our students with the skills for jobs that don’t yet exist. Many of our students will pursue a career in a design and technology industry – we ensure that all of our pupils have a strong awareness of opportunities available to them with careers featuring throughout all areas of study.Â
