Meet the SEND team

The Inclusion department consists of a team of 17 teaching assistants, 10 of whom specialise in working with students with a visual impairment. The department is led by Mrs Lomas the Inclusion Leader/SENCo and is overseen by Ms Orchard, one of our Assistant Head teachers. Mr Turnbull is the Head of our Vision Resource Base and is a Qualified Teacher of the Vision Impaired (QTVI).  We are assisted by Mrs White who is the Inclusion Administration Manager and Miss Burke who is also part of our administration team.

My teaching & learning specialisms

Since starting at Plantsbrook in 1999, I have taught Science at KS3 & KS4, and Biology at KS5.  I have enjoyed being part of our excellent pastoral system, having had many years of experience of being an Achievement Co-ordinator. I became the Leader of Inclusion (SENCo) in September 2015.

My philosophy for inclusion

My main priority is for our SEND children to be  happy and safe within their learning environment. To ensure that every child has accessibility to their education no matter what their needs are. To encourage everyone to work as a team around the child ensuring they are able to fulfil their potential.

My role

My role is to take care of the administration side of the Inclusion team, making sure all paperwork and systems are up to date.

My philosophy for inclusion

I believe that all children should be treated equally, regardless of their ability.  They should be provided with a positive environment in which they can test and challenge themselves, to encourage them to be the very best that they can be.
