Footgolf arrives for National Sports week

Plantsbrook’s very first footgolf course was the highlight of ‘National Sports Week’ inspired changes to PE Lessons.

Along with foot tennis and ultimate frisbee students were given the opportunity during breaks and lunchtimes to use the field for extra space during the good weather.

Subject Leader for PE, Health and Wellbeing Mr Saunders says it was a worthwhile experiment to try something new:

“We wanted to create a really engaging and active week to mark ‘National Sports Week’ so the opportunity to try something different really appealed. We were able to get help from other areas of the school to make our golf flags and design the layout of the course and I think everyone really enjoyed it. It’s certainly given us some ideas of things that could be added to the curriculum on a more regular basis.”

Students were also given a special assembly aimed at promoting the benefits of ‘Physically Active Learning’ which is thought to spread beyond just the obvious physical health advantages:

“There is evidence keeping active can increase confidence, concentration, resilience and allow for collaboration and team work. Above all we just wanted to use the week to try and inspire a new love of sport and get the message across that being more active can really have added benefits to education.”
