At Plantsbrook Bridge Centre, our mission is to ensure that every student receives the support they need to successfully transition back into mainstream education. We believe in nurturing both academic growth and emotional development to help students thrive—both inside the classroom and beyond.
We take an ambitious and holistic approach to our curriculum, integrating our national curriculum led “Learning Journeys” with tailored adjustments that meet the unique needs of our students. Our curriculum combines core subjects—delivered by specialists in English, mathematics, and science—with additional lessons that are enhanced for an alternative provision setting. We prioritise quality teaching, supported by experienced educators and pastoral staff, who provide targeted therapeutic and intervention support alongside core lessons.
The daily curriculum offer at Plantsbrook Bridge Centre consists of three key components, each designed to meet the diverse needs of our students:
- Academic Curriculum: This component focuses on bridging gaps in core subjects, helping students develop both the knowledge and skills needed to succeed academically. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum designed to prepare pupils for a smooth transition back to mainstream schooling.
- Behaviour Curriculum: Our individualised and personalised approach to pastoral care provides daily support, curriculum adjustments, and interventions. Skilled staff work closely with students to ensure their personal growth and development, enabling each pupil to receive the tailored support they need to succeed.
- Safeguarding and Personal Development Curriculum (CARE): At the heart of our approach, CARE supports the development of ‘the whole child,’ addressing the barriers to learning that can impact students’ overall growth. CARE is an acronym that encompasses key areas of personal and social development:
C – Citizenship and Careers
A – Awareness (including aspects of Safeguarding not covered in the Behaviour curriculum)
R – Relationships, Sex, and Health Education
E – Education Beyond the Classroom and Enrichment
Recognising that each student has individual needs, we use a variety of strategies to ensure that all learners can access the curriculum, with a particular focus on literacy and numeracy as essential skills that open doors to broader learning opportunities. Our curriculum is designed to help every child succeed, building both their academic skills and self-confidence, so they can see themselves as capable and confident learners.
