Business, Computing and Social Sciences

Welcome to the faculty of Business, Computing and Social Sciences.

The Business department at Plantsbrook School is a highly skilled and experienced department that endeavours to provide all students with a well-balanced understanding of the business world through the variety of subjects on offer at KS4 and KS5.

To ensure inclusivity, we offer vocational and traditional qualifications in Economics (A-level), Accounting (A-level), Business (BTEC L2 and L3, GCSE and A-level) and Travel and Tourism (BTEC L2 and L3). Students are offered the opportunity to undertake a number of the subjects offered in Year 10 and are often inspired to continue with these subjects at our sixth form.

Our aim in Computing is to inspire students as innovators of the future and to foster a love of this subject. As computer programs permeate our lives, our society needs computer scientists – passionate individuals to develop computing in every type of industry.

In practice, this means that students need to relate their learning to the real world and possible career paths. They need to become digitally literate, and digitally resilient. We will achieve this by teaching them to understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of Computing.

The Social Sciences department at Plantsbrook school is a skilled and experienced department that endeavours to provide all students with an understanding of society and the individual through a range of subjects on offer at KS4 and KS5.

In order to ensure inclusivity, we offer vocational and traditional qualifications in Psychology (A level), Sociology (A level) and Health and Social Care (BTEC L3). Students can study Psychology in Year 10 and are often wanting to continue this into A level. Uptake for these courses is really strong and it continues to grow year on year. Our aim is to ensure that all students build the confidence and resilience to understand how both society and the individual has an impact on behaviour, along with the possible roles students can undertake within the health and social care industry.
