Plantsbrook Careers Provision

Opportunities available for students at Plantsbrook include:

Careers Advisers

One-to-one appointments with an impartial Careers Adviser is available at any point during a student’s life at Plantsbrook.  The Advisers are also present at key events such as open evenings, options evenings (Year 8 and Year 11) and parents evenings (Year 12 and Year 13).  The Advisers are happy to discuss career paths with both students and parents.

Tutor Time

Students in all years receive guidance in tutor time on topics such as; CV writing, interview skills, loans, debit and credit information, mortgages and work experience.

Careers Events

A careers event is run in the autumn term and sees employers and training providers in attendance.  Local colleges, universities and private training providers are invited so students can discuss careers with employers and training providers directly and gain valuable information about their future. We also hold events such as ‘Meet the Professional’ where visitors inform students of different pathways (college, university, apprenticeships etc.) into various careers.

Enrichment Days

External providers in the past have included the Police, Military and UCAS. These providers have helped with enrichment days offering different career related workshops. Practice interviews for Year 11s with a team of local employers are staged putting students through mock interviews. Extra sessions on ‘Your ideal career’ and ‘Preparing for the world of work’ are also delivered by the careers team. There is a specialised programme for Year 12 and 13 within the Enrichment Days that supports all students no matter where they choose to go after A Levels.

Extra Provision

A wide range of extra provision is offered to students.  Sessions on employability skills, as well as trips to employers, external fairs and events are organised so students can see how the world of work functions in subjects/areas they are interested in.

Careers Ambassadors

We have a team of careers ambassadors from Years 9 – 11 who meet regularly with the Careers Advisers to discuss ideas for events, open days, update notice boards and ensure the careers ambassadors represent the careers views and ideas for their Year group.  The Careers Ambassadors gain valuable employability skills through regular meetings and contact.
