Tutor Time
At Plantsbrook, all students from Year 7 to Year 13 use Unifrog, an award-winning careers and destinations platform that helps them explore interests, develop skills, and plan for the future. Students follow a PSHCE programme that helps them explore their interests, develop essential life and career skills, and make informed choices about their future pathways.
In years 7–8, students are introduced to Unifrog through activities that help them discover their strengths and interests. They explore a wide range of careers, complete personality and interest quizzes, and begin recording their achievements and experiences online.
By Years 9–11, students use will be linking their learning to future goals and make informed decisions about GCSE and post-16 options. They research subjects and career pathways, develop employability skills, and prepare for college, sixth form or apprenticeship applications with guidance from staff and careers interviews.
In the sixth form, this programme supports students in planning their next steps after school. They explore and compare university courses, higher apprenticeships and employment options, build CVs and personal statements, and track applications through the platform.
Parents are encouraged to explore Unifrog with their child, helping them record achievements and discuss future ambitions. The platform also offers helpful guides and webinars to support families as students prepare for life beyond school.
Careers Advisers
Students will receive careers appointments with an impartial Careers Adviser at key points in their KS4 and KS5 journey.
Careers Events
Throughout the year, we offer a wide range of careers activities to help students explore their future pathways. These include our annual Careers Fair, dedicated Careers Days, workplace visits, employer talks, mock interviews, and work experience opportunities.
At every Parents’ Evening, we also invite local colleges, universities, apprenticeship providers, and private training organisations. This gives students and parents the chance to speak directly with employers and education providers, ask questions, and gather valuable information about post-16 and post-18 options.
Together, these events ensure that every student has multiple opportunities across the year to discover and plan their next steps with confidence.
Extra Provision
A wide range of extra provision is offered to students. Sessions on employability skills, as well as trips to external fairs and events, are organised to help students understand how the world of work operates in subjects and industries that interest them. Careers events for sixth form are shared through Google Classroom and via email to ensure all students are aware of wider school opportunities.
In Key Stage 3, pupils will have a minimum of five days of experiences of the workplace, which may include trips to businesses, employer-led workshops, and in-school visits from industry professionals. In Years 10 and 12, pupils will undertake a minimum of five days of work experience, providing them with valuable first-hand insight into professional environments, the expectations of employers, and the skills and behaviours needed to succeed in their chosen career pathways.
