School Uniform

Plantsbrook School is a uniformed school for students in Years 7-13. Therefore, there is a clear expectation that students attending Plantsbrook School will wear the full uniform every day, and that this expectation will be supported by parents.  

Our policy is based on the notion that a school uniform:  

• Promotes a sense of pride in the school  

• Provides a feeling of community and belonging  

• Is practical and smart  

• Identifies the students with their school  

• Makes students feel equal to their peers, in terms of appearance and financial circumstances  

• Shows the local community that Plantsbrook students live up to their school motto “Be the best that you can be” in every way  

Our Uniform in Yr 7-11 consists of the following items: 

• BLAZER– Black Traditional-style uniform blazer with the school badge on the left pocket  

• TIE– Clip on ties to be worn at all times reflecting their own year group colour. The colour remains with each cohort from Y7-10 and you can check the cohort colour via enquiry@plantsbrookschool.co.uk 

• SHIRT– A plain white formal collar shirt or blouse, which should be tucked in at all times 

• JUMPER– Plain black V-neck wool-mix, optional school badge.  

• TROUSERS– Plain black regular or slim fit trousers to be worn on the waist and reach the shoe. A plain black belt with plain buckle can be worn. During term time, at the discretion of the Headteacher, permission will be given to students to wear plain black knee-length tailored school shorts. 

• SKIRTS– Plain black skirts should be worn. They should be below mid-thigh in length and should not be rolled up or tied at the back to make them shorter. Where longer skirts are worn, they should not be below the ankle. 

• SHOES– Plain black business-like leather or leather-look and polishable. For clarity, branded footwear/ hybrid footwear is not permitted. 

• SOCKS/TIGHTS– Plain black socks just above the ankle or plain black tights with the option of plain natural-coloured tights in the Summer term.   

• PE KIT– 

• Branded Plantsbrook sports polo-shirt – compulsory  

• Branded Plantsbrook hooded sweatshirt or 1/4 zip – preferable (non-branded plain black can be worn- no branded items other than Plantsbrook accepted) 

• Branded Plantsbrook games jersey – optional  

• Branded Plantsbrook football/rugby socks – preferable (plain black or plain.    red can be worn) 

• Branded Plantsbrook shorts or plain black shorts (optional skort) – compulsory  

• Plain black tracksuit bottoms or leggings – optional  

• Plain black base layer/skins – optional  

• Trainers – must have non-marking sole – compulsory  

• Football boots and shin pads – compulsory  

• Gum shield – optional 

• HAIR/MAKE-UP/JEWELLERY should adhere to the following guidelines: 

• Hair should be neat and tidy without decorative attachments. Extreme styles, unnatural hair colours, tram lines or other shaved shapes in the hair or eyebrows are not permitted.   

• Make-up should be discreet; natural-looking make-up is permitted 

• Nails: Clear or nude nail polish is permitted. Acrylic nails or nails grown to a length that is deemed a health and safety issue will need to be cut down 

• The following jewellery is permitted:  

• One wristwatch. Smart watches must remain disconnected from any mobile device throughout the day 

• One plain set of stud earrings, metal coloured, in the lower part of the ear. 

• A discreet nose stud, which is flat in nature. This must be removed for PE lessons. 

• ADDITIONAL ITEMS-  

• A plain black durag is allowed 

• Headscarves worn for religious purposes must be black 

• An apron will be required for Technology to provide adequate protection in practical lessons 

• A school bag 

Our Uniform in Yr 12-13 consists of the following items: 

• Black trousers/skirt  

• White shirt/white blouse  

• Sixth Form tie (unless a blouse is worn)  

• Black v or zip neck jumper*  

• Black Cardigan or blazer*  

• Black formal shoes – no trainers  

• Plantsbrook Blazer is optional 

• Plantsbrook PE kit is not required  

• Hair, make-up and jewellery should be appropriate for a professional environment  

 *Items should be plain with no logos (other than the Plantsbrook School logo) 

Please also note that in all year groups, outdoor clothing (such as coats, hoodies, gloves, scarves, hats and caps) must be removed on entering the school building. 

In extremely cold or wet weather we understand that pupils may adjust their outdoor wear for the journey to/ from school. During this time we can adjust the boundaries for removing outdoor clothing to allow pupils time and space to take off coats, change footwear etc. In these circumstances pupils should be appropriately dressed by the time they arrive at their form room. They should not be late to form due to putting items in lockers- this should be accounted for in their arrival time in the building.
